Engineer Software Engineer, Platform at Vercel

Design and build high-scale internal observability systems including metrics, logs, and traces to give engineering teams visibility into Vercel's infrastructure and operations.

Mid Hybrid Posted 1 day ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

About Vercel:

Vercel is the agentic infrastructure company. We free people and agents to ship what’s next.

For more than a decade, Vercel has shaped how the web is built. As the team behind Next.js, v0, and AI SDK, we create products that help builders move from idea to production with speed, security, and exceptional developer experience.

Now, software is entering a new era, and the next generation of products will not just be used by people. They will be built, extended, and operated by agents.

We are building the platform for that future, trusted by companies like OpenAI, PayPal, Ramp, Supreme, and millions of developers worldwide. Whether you’re building our products, supporting our customers, growing our community, or shaping our story, you’ll help define what comes next.

About the role:

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our Platform team. You will build the observability systems that give Vercel visibility into how we build, ship, and operate our systems. Core Platform owns Vercel’s reliability, resilience, and engineering velocity. We’re looking for engineers to create observability for everything from cost attribution to deployment velocity, alongside the logs, metrics, and traces necessary to optimize how Vercel builds its systems. This is a role with a wide breadth where we quickly develop critical systems and improve the entire Vercel code base. You will report to Eric Larson, Engineering Manager, Platform and will be located onsite, hybrid, or remote.

If you’re based within a pre-determined commuting distance of one of our offices (SF, NY, London, or Berlin), the role includes in-office anchor days on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, even if the role is listed as remote. For location-specific details, please connect with our recruiting team.

What you will do:

  • Design and build high-scale, internal observability systems (metrics, logs, and traces) that give engineering and the business visibility into Vercel’s own infrastructure.
  • Build cost attribution and chargeback tooling so spend can be accurately mapped to the parts of the business driving it, reducing reliance on third-party tools like Datadog.
  • Partner with Backend and Platform teams to instrument services for compliance, auditing, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Evaluate, integrate, and help operate observability infrastructure across our existing vendors and the CNCF ecosystem.
  • Ship pragmatic, high-leverage visibility quickly that drives improvement in how build, deploy, and operate our systems.
  • Work closely with Backend and Platform engineers to scale observability infrastructure to the throughput and cardinality of Vercel’s full production traffic.

About you:

  • Proficient in TypeScript, with backend/infrastructure experience.
  • Hands-on experience with Go, Rust, or Zig in production systems.
  • Experience with distributed computing systems at scale.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, including object storage.
  • Familiarity with observability tooling and concepts (Datadog, Grafana, New Relic, Splunk, or CNCF-based stacks such as Prometheus-compatible backends).

Bonus if you:

  • Have contributed to or worked closely with CNCF observability projects.
  • Built, scaled, and improved internal developer platforms.

Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation package, including equity.
  • Inclusive Healthcare Package.
  • Learn and Grow - we provide mentorship and send you to events that help you build your network and skills.
  • Flexible Time Off.
  • We will provide you the gear you need to do your role, and a WFH budget for you to outfit your space as needed.

The San Francisco, CA base pay range for this role is $208,000-$312,000. Actual salary will be based on job-related skills, experience, and location. Compensation outside of San Francisco may be adjusted based on employee location. The total compensation package may include benefits, equity-based compensation, and eligibility for a company bonus or variable pay program depending on the role. Your recruiter can share more details during the hiring process.

Vercel is committed to fostering and empowering an inclusive community within our organization. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, gender expression or identity, sexual orientation, national origin, citizenship, age, marital status, veteran status, disability status, or any other characteristic protected by law. Vercel encourages everyone to apply for our available positions, even if they don’t necessarily check every box on the job description.

Staff ML Engineer who develops and owns machine learning models for customer retention, tasker matching, and repeat purchase optimization at scale.

Lead Hybrid Posted 1 day ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

About Taskrabbit:

Taskrabbit is a marketplace platform that conveniently connects people with Taskers to handle everyday home to-do’s, such as furniture assembly, handyman work, moving help, and much more.

At Taskrabbit, we want to transform lives one task at a time. As a company we celebrate innovation, inclusion and hard work. Our culture is collaborative, pragmatic, and fast-paced. We’re looking for talented, entrepreneurially minded and data-driven people who also have a passion for helping people do what they love. Together with IKEA, we’re creating more opportunities for people to earn a consistent, meaningful income on their own terms by building lasting relationships with clients in communities around the world.

Taskrabbit is a hybrid company with employees distributed across the US and EU and a Built In — Best Places to Work (2022, 2023, 2024, 2025) continually ranked across multiple national and regional categories. Join us at Taskrabbit, where your work will be meaningful, your ideas valued, and your potential unleashed!

This role is hybrid requiring 2 days in office at our San Francisco or NYC hub every Tuesday & Wednesday.

About the Role

Machine Learning is a cornerstone at Taskrabbit, and we’re looking for a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to join our team and lead the next phase of our customer retention strategy. This is a critical, full-stack role for an individual who is passionate about the end-to-end lifecycle: from initial research and model development to building the robust systems that power repeat customer engagement and lifetime value growth at scale.

Taskrabbit’s greatest growth opportunity lies in deepening customer relationships and accelerating repeat purchases. Our most valuable customers are those who return frequently, discover new service categories, and increase their spending over time. There’s significant untapped potential in the marketplace: repeat customers spend 3-5x more than one-time users, and category expansion unlocks new revenue streams within our existing customer base.

This role is central to capturing that opportunity. While initial matching quality and service discovery matter, the real competitive advantage and growth lever is optimizing the experience after a successful first job.

What You’ll Work On:

  • Taskrabbit Ranking Model: Own the reliability and performance of our core ranking system, ensuring accurate tasker-to-job matching and optimizing First-Time Right (FTR) rates.
  • Increased repeat purchase frequency through intelligent matching, personalized recommendations, and category discovery
  • Expanded customer lifetime value by helping customers find and return for new service categories
  • Optimized affordability and relevance via dynamic pricing, smart segmentation, and category-specific experiences
  • Reduced friction and churn through predictive quality interventions and proactive customer success
  • Marketplace resilience by building systems that keep high-value customers engaged and loyal
  • End-to-End ML Lifecycle: Own the complete lifecycle of models—from feature engineering and training through evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and optimization in production.
  • Infrastructure & Scalability: Build and maintain scalable, reliable ML infrastructure and data pipelines that support reproducible feature engineering and model deployment across real-time, near real-time, and batch contexts.
  • Monitoring & Performance Optimization: Develop monitoring and observability systems to understand data quality and model performance in complex systems. Collaborate with engineering and science teams to optimize algorithms for training, inference, and evaluation.
  • Software Engineering Excellence: Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code. Participate actively in code reviews, documentation, and best practices across the full software engineering lifecycle.

Your Areas of Expertise:

We welcome applicants from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Below gives you a sense of how we’re thinking about what you’ll need to be successful in the role.

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Operations Research, or a related quantitative field.
  • 8+ years of industry experience building and deploying high-quality, production-grade machine learning models and systems.
  • Strong theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience in machine learning, particularly in search, ranking, recommender systems, pricing/elasticity modeling, or predictive analytics.
  • Solid software engineering skills with proficiency in one or more programming languages, including Python.  The candidate should have experience with popular ML libraries like Scikit-learn, lightgbm, xgboost, TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.
  • Proficiency in SQL is also required for writing complex queries and transforming data.
  • Experience building REST API-based services.
  • Experience with modern data and ML technologies, such as Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, Airflow, data warehouses (eg snowflake, redshift or BigQuery), and data lakes.
  • Familiarity with dbt is a plus for transforming and testing data.
  • Familiarity with tools for Infrastructure as Code, such as Github actions, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A passion for quickly learning new technologies and a drive to solve challenging problems, and a collaborative mindset.
  • Ideally, experience working in marketplace or platform contexts where ranking, matching, and pricing directly impact user experience and business outcomes.

At Taskrabbit, our approach to compensation is designed to be competitive, transparent, and equitable. Total compensation consists of base pay + bonus + benefits + perks. The base pay range for this position is $170,000 - $225,000. Prior to applying please note:

  • This role is hybrid requiring 2 days in office at our San Francisco hub every Tuesday & Wednesday (located at 130 Sutter St, San Francisco, CA).

About the Role:

The Architecture Team drives Taskrabbit’s Platform Modernization efforts, guiding engineering teams toward our Target State Architecture (TSA). As a Staff Software Architect, you’ll serve as an embedded representative of the Architecture team, partnering with engineering teams across the platform to accelerate their modernization work.

You’ll operate as a subject matter expert on platform modernization within a small team of architects, applying AI-assisted and Spec-Driven Development (SDD) practices to help teams build new components using our Target State Architecture stack of technologies. This role is hands-on and results-oriented: pairing directly with engineers and technical leads, not just advising from the sidelines.

You will be:

  • Acting as the Architecture team’s representative to assigned engineering teams, driving platform modernization projects in accordance with the TSA.
  • Applying AI tooling and Spec-Driven Development practices to help teams modernize the parts of the platform they own.

  • Collaborating with a small team of architects to maintain consistency across modernization efforts platform-wide.
  • Writing and reviewing Technical Design Documents (TDDs) and RFCs, and coaching authors to strengthen their proposals.
  • Defining standards for tooling, coding, processes, AI usage, and documentation strategies that make modernization repeatable across teams.

This is not a purely consultative role. You’re expected to engage directly with projects and drive results forward — TDDs, code, and outcomes.

You should have:

  • 8+ years of professional experience in software development, with a primary focus on building and scaling backend systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with distributed systems and event-driven architecture.
  • TypeScript/Node.js experience preferred; candidates with a background in another strongly typed language (e.g., Java, .NET) will also be considered.
  • Experience with containerization and containerized application deployment.
  • An enthusiast for AI tooling and AI-assisted development practices, with a proven track record of applying them professionally.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build consensus and keep technical design discussions professional and productive, even when opinions differ strongly.
  • Willingness to lead, speak up, and be visible and vocal in Architecture and team design meetings.
  • Comfort pairing directly with engineers and technical leadership, not just producing documentation or recommendations.

Bonus Criteria:

  • Experience with Kubernetes (K8s).
  • Experience with the NestJS framework.
  • Experience designing or using Helm charts.
  • Experience with Spec-Driven Development tools such as SpecKit, OpenSpec, Intent, Kiro, or similar.
  • Experience with ArgoCD.
  • Experience with Datadog.
  • Experience with contract-first design using OpenAPI and AsyncAPI.

Engineer Backend Engineer - Data (m/f/d) at alcemy

Build and maintain data ingestion APIs and systems that ingest messy plant data into ML models, deploy to production, and troubleshoot issues in a cloud environment.

Mid Hybrid Posted 1 day ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

Berlin Mitte · Hybrid (up to 2 days/week remote) · €60,000–75,000 + VSOP equity

Help us decarbonize cement and concrete - not tomorrow, today

alcemy is on a mission to keep 100 million tons of CO₂ out of the atmosphere every year by 2030. Making concrete accounts for around 8% of global CO₂ emissions, and our machine-learning software runs inside cement and concrete plants 24⁄7 to cut it - without sacrificing quality or driving up costs. We’re already live in a third of Germany’s cement plants and 30+ ready-mix concrete plants.

The role

You’ll own the systems that get plant data into alcemy.

That data comes from external partners, and it arrives messy. You’ll build and own the APIs and services that take it in, make sense of it, and feed the machine-learning models behind our recommendations - designing those systems, deploying them, keeping them running, and diagnosing what went wrong when something upstream changes without warning.

It’s a backend engineering role with a data problem at the centre of it, and it’s refreshingly hands-on with customers: you’ll dig into real-world data, explain what you find to non-technical people, and make getting data into alcemy dramatically easier.

What you need is solid production Python, the ability to run what you build, and comfort talking to the people on the other end of the pipe.

What you’ll do

  • Own the data ingestion systems that bring messy plant data from external partners into something our ML can use
  • Build and improve our ingestion APIs, moving us from strict, structured data requirements toward flexible, AI-powered ingestion — so customers onboard with far less friction
  • Deploy, monitor and troubleshoot your systems in production, diagnosing and fixing issues when something upstream changes without warning
  • Track down data anomalies and explain your findings to customers in plain language
  • Build and maintain the APIs and PostgreSQL databases behind our products, and keep production running smoothly
  • Work shoulder to shoulder with external partners, customers, sales and customer success - translating between the technical and the non-technical
  • Collaborate with the product team on backend work

You’ll thrive here if… above all, you care about climate change and want your work to count.

Must-haves

  • You’ve deployed production-grade Python applications
  • You know how to deploy, monitor and troubleshoot production systems in a cloud environment
  • You communicate clearly in writing and in conversation, and you collaborate well across roles
  • You’re comfortable working directly with customers, sales and customer success - patient, plain-spoken, and at ease with non-technical enterprise teams
  • You pick up unfamiliar codebases quickly, and you’re keen to contribute early
  • You’re open to using AI tools to augment how you work

Nice-to-haves

  • Exposure to machine learning or data pipeline projects
  • Experience with FastAPI, Flask or Django
  • PostgreSQL or similar SQL databases
  • Experience designing or maintaining integrations with third-party or partner systems

Don’t tick every box? We’d still love to hear from you.

How we work

You won’t be working alone - you’ll build collaboratively alongside senior and junior engineers, owning features end to end: build, test, review, deploy.

Small team, direct customer exposure, fast startup pace - so async communication, clear prioritisation, transparency, and direct feedback are the norm, and how we work is something we shape together, and keep improving.

We use Claude Code responsibly: AI to move fast, engineers always in charge and accountable, no AI-slop merge requests.

We’ll ask you to be flexible. We don’t have fixed teams or fixed projects here. As the business shifts, we’ll ask you to move to where the work matters most and pick up new problems. If you enjoy variety and switching between problems, you’ll do well here.

Hybrid by design (Berlin Mitte office, up to 2 days remote, plus offsites and boat trips), with real room to grow along technical-expert or management tracks - and the chance to lead a product area within a couple of years.

  • 25 days’ vacation - plus an extra day for every 2 years here, and the days between Christmas and New Year off
  • €1,500/year and 3 days/quarter for your own development
  • The Mac of your choice
  • An office in the heart of Berlin Mitte

Our Tech Stack

  • Backend & data: Python throughout - FastAPI (auto-generated Swagger/OpenAPI), SQLAlchemy, pydantic, pytest, mypy; pandas, polars, numpy, sklearn; uv for dependencies
  • Infra: PostgreSQL, AWS on Kubernetes managed with Terraform, ArgoWorkflows for scheduled jobs, GitLab for code
  • Frontend: React & Next.js in TypeScript with TailwindCSS; Blueprint.js / Radix UI; TanStack Query or axios; Streamlit for internal tools

Our Hiring Process is fully remote

  1. Intro call with our Recruiter
  2. Meet our Hiring Manager
  3. A take-home task that mirrors the real work you’d be doing
  4. Technical interview (90 min) with two engineers, including 30 min of live coding
  5. Team-fit interview (45 min) with two future teammates

At alcemy, we’re building a team as diverse as the industry we’re transforming. We welcome applications from everyone and assess every candidate on merit alone - regardless of gender, age, ethnic or national origin, religion or worldview, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity. We especially encourage people who are underrepresented in tech to apply. If you need any adjustments to take part fully in our hiring process, just let us know and we’ll make them.

Note: We don’t currently offer visa sponsorship, so you’ll need a valid EU work visa.

Engineer Software Engineer, Platform at Vercel

Design and build high-scale internal observability systems including metrics, logs, traces, and cost attribution tooling to give Vercel visibility into its infrastructure and operations.

Where others see a simple need for grocery delivery, we see exciting complexity and endless opportunity to serve the varied needs of our community. We work to deliver an essential service that customers rely on to get their groceries and household goods, while also offering safe and flexible earnings opportunities to Instacart Personal Shoppers.

Instacart has become a lifeline for millions of people, and we’re building the team to help push our shopping cart forward. If you’re ready to do the best work of your life, come join our table.

Instacart is a Flex First team

There’s no one-size fits all approach to how we do our best work. Our employees have the flexibility to choose where they do their best work—whether it’s from home, an office, or your favorite coffee shop—while staying connected and building community through regular in-person events. Learn more about our flexible approach to where we work.

OVERVIEW

The Developer Experience team at Instacart is the force multiplier for our 1000+ engineers. We define and build the platforms, tools, and practices that enable Instacart engineers to ship high-quality software faster — from AI-powered code review to build infrastructure, developer onboarding, and local development environments. Our success is measured in developer velocity: how quickly an engineer can take an idea from concept to production.

As a Staff Software Engineer on Developer Experience, you will lead the technical direction for the developer infrastructure that every Instacart engineer relies on. That spans local and remote development environments, CI pipelines and the feedback loop on every commit, pre-production environments that engineers and AI agents can trust, version-control infrastructure, and the AI-powered developer tooling woven through all of it. This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You’ll write code, set architectural direction, and partner across the org to move engineering-wide metrics on developer velocity, CI reliability, and the time it takes to get a change safely into production.

About the Job

  • Lead the technical direction for Instacart’s local and remote development environments, including ephemeral environments, image-based provisioning, health checks, and the developer-facing ergonomics of the inner development loop.
  • Lead the technical direction for our CI pipeline infrastructure and the commit-to-feedback loop, CI reliability, failure diagnostics, flaky-test reduction, and shift-left validation.
  • Own the architecture and evolution of our pre-production environments, including staging stability, service-owner accountability models, and environments that let engineers and AI agents validate changes end-to-end in parallel.
  • Drive the reliability and resilience of our git infrastructure, git operations at monorepo scale, and implement disaster recovery plans.
  • Advance AI-powered developer tooling across the workflow, AI-assisted code review, agentic development workflows, and the platforms that let engineers run many AI sessions in parallel with humans on the loop.
  • Design and drive multi-quarter initiatives that measurably improve developer velocity, CI reliability, pre-production health, and the local development loop.
  • Own the developer experience metrics for the systems you lead: define what “good” looks like, instrument it, and use the data to prioritize investment.
  • Partner with infrastructure, platform, and product engineering teams to roll out platform changes with minimal disruption
  • Set the technical bar for the systems you own on reliability, performance, upgrade cadence, and developer ergonomics.
  • Mentor engineers in the team and the broader engineering org; grow the community of developer infrastructure experts at Instacart.
  • Represent the team in cross-org technical discussions on local development experience, CI/CD, pre-production, and AI-augmented development.

About You

  • A hands-on technical leader who is equally comfortable in a CI pipeline definition, a design doc, a vision document, and a cross-org migration plan.
  • Metrics-driven. You use build times, CI failure rates, pre-production pass rates, feedback-loop latency, and developer feedback to guide where to invest.
  • A multiplier. You make the engineers around you more effective through mentorship, clear technical writing, and pragmatic guidance.
  • Comfortable driving cross-team change. You can build consensus for a migration or a platform shift and see it through to adoption.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of software development experience.
  • Deep, hands-on experience operating CI/CD systems at scale (e.g., Buildkite, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CircleCI), including pipeline design, reliability, and performance tuning for large engineering organizations.
  • Experience building or operating local/remote development environments or developer platforms (e.g., ephemeral environments, dev containers, internal PaaS), with a point of view on the inner development loop.
  • Track record of leading cross-team technical initiatives with measurable impact on developer velocity, CI reliability, pre-production stability, or feedback-loop time.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), containerization (Docker), and orchestration (ECS/Kubernetes or equivalent).
  • Experience with large monorepos and the git infrastructure challenges that come with them.
  • Strong technical leadership: driving direction, mentoring engineers, and influencing without direct authority.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience owning or evolving a developer environment platform used by a large engineering org.
  • Experience stabilizing pre-production / staging environments at scale, including establishing service-owner accountability and SLAs.
  • Experience with AI-powered developer tooling — AI code review, agentic coding workflows, or platforms that run async agentic work for engineers.
  • Experience defining and instrumenting developer productivity metrics (CI failure rate, feedback-loop time, pre-production pass rate, local dev loop).
  • Experience at high-growth companies operating developer infrastructure for large engineering organizations.

Engineer Staff Machine Learning Engineer - Retention at Taskrabbit

Staff ML Engineer leads end-to-end machine learning initiatives for customer retention, from model development to production systems powering repeat engagement and lifetime value growth.

Lead Hybrid Posted 4 days ago RemoteFirstJobs Product

Compensation & Benefits:

At Taskrabbit, our approach to compensation is designed to be competitive, transparent, and equitable. Total compensation consists of base pay + bonus + benefits + perks. The base pay range for this position is $170,000 - $225,000. This range is representative of base pay only, and does not include any other total cash compensation amounts, such as company bonus or benefits. Engineer Software Engineer 3, AI Framework Integrations at MongoDB

Builds and maintains MongoDB integrations with AI frameworks like LangChain and LlamaIndex, shipping Python/TypeScript code into open-source ecosystems.

Mid Hybrid Posted 7 days ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

AI frameworks like LangChain, LlamaIndex, and n8n are quickly becoming the default way developers build with AI — and MongoDB wants to be the data platform that shows up everywhere they build. As part of the AI Builders Experience (ABX) org, we’re standing up a brand new engineering team in Gurugram to make that happen, and we’re looking for Software Engineers to be among its founding members.

The team owns the connective layer between MongoDB and third-party AI frameworks, platforms, and tools — the integrations that let developers use MongoDB effectively with the AI stack they’ve already chosen. That means shipping into some of the fastest-moving open-source ecosystems in tech, working mostly in Python and TypeScript, and partnering with the Database Experience (DBX) org when an integration needs new driver, platform, or product capability underneath it.

This is a strong role for an engineer who wants to grow into the AI space with real ownership. You’ll own well-scoped projects from design through release, work with fast-moving and sometimes unproven technologies, and get a clear view of how the ecosystem is evolving. Priorities shift as frameworks change and customer demand moves, so we’re looking for engineers who are adaptable, ask good questions, and take pride in shipping. Much of your work will happen in public: sending pull requests to upstream repositories, working through external maintainer review cycles, and participating in developer communities as MongoDB.

You’ll work closest with the engineers sitting next to you, pairing on hard problems, reviewing each other’s code, and dividing up a broad portfolio, with senior engineers and your manager close at hand as you take on larger pieces of it.

MongoDB engineering teams pride themselves on building high-quality software and living our cultural values every day. We value intellectual curiosity, intellectual honesty, customer empathy, and building together in an environment that prioritizes collaboration over competition.

We are looking to speak to candidates who are based in Gurugram for our hybrid working model.

Position expectations

  • Build, test, and ship MongoDB integrations across a broad AI framework ecosystem that includes technologies like LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, n8n, and Mastra
  • Own well-scoped projects end to end on weekly-to-quarterly timelines, taking responsibility for the scope, schedule, and quality of your own work and communicating progress and trade-offs clearly
  • Solve day-to-day technical problems with growing independence, using the team’s established patterns and past practice to guide your decisions, and seeking guidance on non-standard problems
  • Contribute to exploratory work on new frameworks: help evaluate an integration’s feasibility, build a first working version of the piece you own, and share what you learn with the team
  • Contribute high-quality code upstream to repositories MongoDB doesn’t own, following the team’s contribution practices and maintaining a high standard of professionalism and courtesy through external maintainer review cycles
  • Work within and improve the team’s engineering practices: CI/CD, automated testing across framework and server versions, version compatibility checks, and release steps. Suggest improvements where you see repeated friction
  • Help keep the integrations you work on healthy: monitor for upstream breaking changes, handle upgrades, triage incoming issues, and follow through after release
  • Coordinate with adjacent teams, including DBX, when your work depends on driver, platform, or product capability, and escalate cross-team dependencies and risks early rather than working around them
  • Collaborate with product management, product design, and other partners to understand what users need from an integration and how your work connects to the team’s objectives
  • Write clear documentation, give useful code reviews, share what you know with teammates, and follow through on your commitments
  • Develop specialized knowledge of the Python or TypeScript AI builder ecosystems — frameworks, agent and retrieval patterns, vector search — and bring interesting developments back to the team

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience building backend systems, libraries, or other developer-facing software, with solid proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript
  • Experience designing, writing, testing, and debugging software in a shared, long-lived code base, with an eye for the tests and documentation that make it maintainable
  • Track record of delivering scoped projects reliably and on time, with growing independence and good judgment about when to ask for help
  • Demonstrated ability to work on several projects at once and keep quality and commitments intact as priorities shift
  • Clear interest in modern AI builder workflows and the developer tooling landscape: AI frameworks, agentic patterns, RAG and retrieval, embedding, or vector search
  • Solid verbal and written technical communication, including the ability to write things down clearly for teammates and partners you won’t always overlap with in real time
  • Enjoys collaboration and being part of a close-knit team; is approachable, curious, and intellectually honest
  • Eager to learn, with a strong technical foundation and an interest in deepening it

Nice to Have

  • Open source contributions, especially any work that landed in a repository you don’t own
  • Experience building AI or framework integrations, MCP servers, agent skills, or plugins for agentic applications, professionally or as side projects
  • Familiarity with the agentic AI tooling ecosystem (AI IDEs, CLIs, and assistants) and how developers integrate with it
  • Experience with CI/CD and automated testing for libraries that support multiple versions or platforms
  • Experience working with databases; familiarity with MongoDB query patterns
  • Exposure to vector search, embedding pipelines, or index management
  • Working knowledge of Java, Go, C#, or Rust
  • Experience with containerization tools (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes) and with AI frameworks and libraries
  • Familiarity with Jira and related tools

Success measures

  • In the first month, you will understand the team’s scope, how our integrations are structured, where the relevant repositories and pipelines live, and how we build, test, and release. You’ll have landed your first code contribution and know who to ask when you’re blocked
  • In three months, you will be delivering scoped work on one or more integrations with growing independence, will have landed an upstream contribution, and will be comfortable running the team’s testing and release process for your own changes
  • In six months, you will own a well-defined area or project end to end, deliver against quarterly objectives with limited oversight, and have made at least one concrete improvement to the quality or efficiency of how the team works
  • In twelve months, you will be a dependable owner of a piece of the portfolio, will have delivered multiple meaningful features or integrations, will be handling upstream and customer issues in your area with confidence, and will be helping teammates get up to speed on what you know best

About the Team As part of the Bet Engine team, you will be working with a group of talented and friendly individuals. Our goal is to deliver and maintain the performant, resilient, accurate, best-in-class software platform to drive sportsbook wagering, sportsbook grading, casino wagering, financial recordkeeping, data residency, and regulatory enforcement that is at the core of everything we do as a company. As a result, our stakeholders span the entire range of the business, and we must support them with whatever they are required to deliver without sacrificing the quality and performance we strive to maintain. This will include building a lot of cross-service integrations, with internal and external stakeholders. We are also hyper-vigilant about software performance, resilience, reliability, and accuracy, constantly tracking risks and regressions on all fronts, and proposing improvements where opportunities exist. The systems we own are among the most business-critical at PENN: every wager, payout, and ledger entry runs through them, and getting them right is a regulatory obligation, not just an engineering goal.

About the Work

  • Design, scale, and performance-tune GraphQL APIs, low-latency gRPC services, and SQL queries powering the sportsbook wagering and grading engine, the casino transaction engine, the financial ledger, responsible gaming enforcement, tax enforcement, general regulatory enforcement, promotional records, and risk management, among other things.
  • Own technical problems of the highest scope and complexity, drafting proposals and presenting them to leadership and partner teams for feedback
  • Design, architect, and deliver new features end-to-end in a collaborative agile/scrum environment
  • Identify bottlenecks and areas of risk in production, and drive the changes that make the platform more scalable
  • Set up and refine monitoring and alerting in Datadog for the systems you own
  • Mentor engineers on the team and across teams that ship into our codebase, through specs, pairing, and code review
  • Interact with multiple stakeholders across a wide variety of business domains to deliver best in class products, operational improvements, and cost efficiency optimizations.
  • Be comfortable with bridging the gap between internal, third party, legacy, and modern systems; and excel at doing what this entails, including, data migrations, intermediate data translation, the building and stewardship of additional supporting infrastructure as required, etc.
  • Other duties as required.

About You

  • You possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in Software engineering
  • A solid foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, distributed systems, algorithms, and software design
  • Strong grasp of production systems at scale, and experience identifying areas of improvement in a production environment through load testing and tracing
  • Experience investigating and remediating production performance regressions, including CPU, I/O, and memory hotspots as well as latency regressions in high-throughput services
  • Experience with on-call rotations for a production service, including owning release cycles end-to-end
  • Passionate about clean code architecture and software craftsmanship
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of authoring tech specs, runbooks, and cross-team design docs that stand up to scrutiny
  • Experience with modern web frameworks and API development (Phoenix, Ruby on Rails, Fast API, Laravel, Node)
  • 2+ Years of experience designing and evolving GraphQL schemas for product surfaces used by multiple clients (iOS, Android, Web)
  • Experience building and integrating multi-client / white-label platforms, including geo-based routing and per-client configuration
  • A strong grasp of relational databases, including PostgreSQL and MySQL. Additionally, a strong understanding of relational database theory, including, but not limited to, normalization and denormalization, particularly from a flexibility vs performance mindset, is a major asset.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and comfort operating services in a containerized environment
  • Comfortable working in the terminal, with Git and GitHub or similar, and in an editor of your choice
  • Experience with testing frameworks such as ExUnit, RSpec, Jest, pytest, or equivalent
  • Experience with background job processing (Oban, Exq, Sidekiq, Celery, Beanstalk)
  • Experience with asynchronous event handling infrastructure (Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS SQS/SNS, Google Cloud Pub/Sub)
  • Experience with agentic software development tools, building and using agentic workflows, and validating quality of agentic outputs is a major asset.
  • Experience with building financial, legal, and / or process accounting systems with strong correctness and auditability is paramount.
  • NICE TO HAVE: building applications in Elixir, hexagonal architecture, Domain Driven Development, contribution to open source software, experience working at startups, passion for sports and/or esports
